(UPDATE - HERE ARE SOME PICTURES FROM THE FIRST THREE DAYS OF TRAVELS)
Sorry, folks, no pics...having a few computer problems. Hopefully soon, cause they're fabulous!!! We made it to Mikiko's uncle and aunt's (and grandmother's) house today in Fukuoka, in Kyushu. Phew! They are very kind and have already treated us to dinner. Tomorrow they are taking us to Mount Aso, an active volcano. Cool!
In our travels south, we have so far seen Matsumoto castle and Takayama, a town with many Edo-period buildings. We have traveled through the Japan Alps, and a whole lot of snow... We have been to Amanohashidate, a sand spit with 8,000 pine trees on it that you're supposed to look at upside down (?) and hmmm... what else? Oh yes, we've seen Izumo Taisha, considered to be Japan's second most important shrine... it has absolutely gorgeous grounds, and we were lucky enough to see all the cherry trees in full bloom. And then, we drove along the coast, saw amazingly rocky coastline, beautiful beaches, and the Tottori sand dunes, that stretch out for over 10km and are over 2km wide in some sections!!! Amazing!
And we've only just begun...
We got a call Saturday as we were leaving from a friend who will be visiting her hometown on Shikoku island on April 25th, and invited us to stay for awhile.
Don't expect us home anytime soon! heeheeheeheehee
