Halloween, Qatar/Canada Style

Some friends have asked if we got to celebrate Halloween here, and the answer is, oh yes, and in a BIG way!  Halloween is not celebrated by Qataris, no, but with such a large expat community, you can find Halloween events going on all around Doha through the month of October. In addition, a lot of daycares and schools put on Halloween parties and such. For us, the highlight was definitely going to AJ 1 for trick-or-treating. The college puts families up in one of three compounds, all around the corner from each other: Al Jazeeraland 1, 2, and 3. AJ for short. AJ 1 is the biggest of the three compounds, with over 100 villas. And since the compound is full of Canadian families, Halloween is a pretty big deal there. We drove in to find crowds and crowds of kids and parents strolling the streets, large bags of loot in hand. It was a really fun night. Many villas were lit up and decorated, and the adults took the night as a great excuse to sit outside and enjoy a cool one. Here are some pics from the night...

Kaiya and I, right before we headed out. She made the hat at daycare, and insisted on wearing it all night.

We went along with Kylee and her parents who work at the college. Kaiya and Kylee are in the same class at daycare.

Waiting for loot. Notice the Canadian flag??

She was pretty excited about this one...

We only live about a 5-minute drive away, but she was out immediately. And yes, we have a HOT PINK car seat. You got somethin' to say about that??

Kaiya was of course a princess. We want to get as much mileage out of her flower girl dress as possible, and Jeff, being the sucker daddy that he is, went and bought her a pair of wings and a wand from H & M before we left Canada. So it was perfect.

Sounds great! Way to go Jeff! Girls will be girls:)
Mika still wants to wear her princess dress. Treats are everywhere here and how to hide them. I don't know...
